A 45-year-old man escaped unhurt after the SUV he was driving in caught fire, near the taluk office in Sholinghur town in Ranipet on Wednesday. The police said that S. Ramesh, a native of Sholinghur town, was driving to Chennai when he noticed smoke from the bonnet of the vehicle and caught fire. Immediately, Ramesh got down from the car. The incident happened around 8 a.m. Before firefighters from Sholinghur doused the fire, the vehicle got completely gutted. The rescued person was sent to Government Taluk Hospital in the town for a medical checkup. Police removed the charred vehicle from the carriageway to resume traffic movement on the stretch. Police said an electrical short circuit might be the reason for the accident. A case was registered by Sholinghur Town police. A probe is under way.
