The authorities at the Kannur Central Jail seized suspected hashish oil, a banned narcotics substance, during an inspection on Wednesday (January 7, 2026) night. The contraband stored in two small bottles, was recovered from a convict, identified as Manoj. Following the seizure, the Kannur Town police registered a case and launched an investigation into how the narcotic substance reached the high-security prison. Meanwhile, jail officials admitted that efforts to curb the circulation of narcotics inside the prison had not been fully successful. Recently, a three-member gang allegedly involved in throwing contraband over the prison wall into the jail premises was arrested. Investigations are on to identify those involved in the supply network.
