The officers of Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) have arrested a surveyor attached to the Land Acquisition Office for the Parandur airport project for allegedly demanding and accepting a ₹50,000 bribe to measure a landowner’s property. The accused, Sundaravadivel, 46, was caught by officials of the DVAC unit, Kancheepuram, following a complaint lodged by Ranjith Kumar, a resident of Kancheepuram. According to police, the complainant Ranjith Kumar owns land that falls within the proposed Parandur Airport project area. When he approached the office to have his land measured ahead of acquisition proceedings, Sundaravadivel allegedly demanded ₹50,000 to complete the survey work. Unwilling to pay the bribe, Ranjith Kumar approached the DVAC, who laid a trap and arrested the surveyor while he was receiving the money.
