Amid growing concerns over the sharp decline in groundwater levels in Kerala, the Sunni Yuvajana Sangham (SYS) Thrissur district committee has called for immediate government intervention to regulate groundwater usage and ensure effective recharge systems. In a statement released as part of the district-level launch of its water conservation campaign in Thrissur on Sunday (April 12, 2026), the SYS highlighted the alarming increase in groundwater extraction across the State and stressed the need for scientific studies to guide sustainable usage. The organisation urged the government to introduce strict controls based on research to prevent further depletion.
