The Southern Railway has proposed to operate intra-railway special trains (trains on demand) between Mettupalayam and Tuticorin during the summer season to clear extra rush of passengers. The proposal for operating the services on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from Tuticorin Junction, and on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from Mettupalayam Station, with stoppages at Virudhunagar Junction, Madurai Junction, Dindigul Junction, Pollachi Junction, Podanur Junction and Coimbatore Junction has been submitted to the Railway Board for approval on March 30. The proposal envisages operating 27 trips in each direction from April 7 to June 4.
