Members of Kittur Karnataka Sene protested against Inamdar Sugar Factory management in Markumbi village in Belagavi district, demanding immediate release of compensation to eight workers who died in a workplace accident recently.

As many as six labourers and two officers died in the factory while trying to repair a concentrated sugar syrup boiler. It is clear that the factory management had not introduced proper safety measures, they said.

They demanded that the workers be paid a compensation of at least ₹1 crore per person. They demanded that the Inamdar sugars and other factories in the district implement all necessary safety measures on the shop floor and on the premises. They urged that the management train their workers in safety protocol before deputing them to work.

The protesters alleged that none of the directors had come to meet the families of the deceased even after so many days of the accident. Factory officers spoke to the protesters and assured them that their demands would be brought to the notice of the management.

Leaders, including Shivanand Kulkar, Sannagouda Sanganagoudar, Raju Bolannavar, Deepak Satoji, Shivanand Kurabet, Mallikarjun Baji, Abhishek Kalal, Somu Thotagi, Pakru Kuslapur and others were present.
