Leaders of various students’ unions, including SFI and AISF, on Friday appealed to the State government and the Andhra University management to ensure that the campus remains free from violence and religious fanaticism.

The appeal followed a meeting convened in the wake of a series of incidents reported on the Andhra University campus over the past few days. One of the AISF leaders said the situation continues to remain sensitive, with the authorities striving to restore normalcy even as political and student groups trade allegations against each other.

After the violent face off on February 17, heavy police deployment was made on the campus to prevent further clashes between members of SFI and AISF on one side and supporters of RSS and ABVP on the other.

“We want our Andhra University to remain free from such disruptive activities and have sought the cooperation of all stakeholders to maintain peace and academic atmosphere,” the leader said.
