Kerala has achieved unparalleled continuity in the development of general education sector, Speaker A.N. Shamseer said here on Friday. Inaugurating a new building at Government Lower Primary School, Kariyara, he said that the visible improvement in physical infrastructure in government schools has directly led to an increase in student enrolment and improvement of overall academic standards. 

The Speaker urged teachers to foster reading habit in children and stressed the importance of encouraging students’ participation in arts and sports. “Active parental involvement is important and their participation should be ensured in PTA meetings,” he said.

Renovation of schools

Presiding over the function, Transport Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar highlighted that basic amenities across all schools in the Pathanapuram constituency had been successfully upgraded. “The new school building was constructed using ₹1 crore from the MLA’s asset development fund,” he said. The Minister also spoke about ongoing initiatives, noting that renovation is progressing in 55 schools and 44 anganwadis in the constituency. 

He said ₹8.5 crore has been sanctioned for a drinking water project in Kariyara and confirmed the imminent start of the Vilakkudi-Kariyara railway overbridge construction, along with a new bus service via P.V. Junction. The event was attended by Vilakkudi grama panchayat president V.M. Manju, vice president J. Sajeev, school headmistress P. Rekha, panchayat members, political leaders, and officials.
