A shepherd lost 25 sheep to stray dog attack at Aladipatti in Tenkasi district in the early hours of Monday. A pack of five stray dogs entered the pen owned by M. Subramanian, 40, of Aladipatti near Thiruvenkatam in the early hours of Monday, and killed 25 of the 100 sheep kept there. As the sheep bleated in pain, Mr. Subramanian, his family members and others chased the stray dogs away. However, 25 sheep, worth about ₹2.50 lakh, were killed in the brief brutal attack by the dogs, and 14 other animals suffered grievous bleeding injuries. On information from Mr. Subramanian, officials from Kalingapatti Veterinary Dispensary visited the spot and treated the injured sheep. Thiruvenkatam police also visited the pen. Mr. Subramanian has appealed to the government to give him compensation for the loss and take immediate steps to catch the stray dogs.
