Due to the depression formed in the Bay of Bengal, the No. 1 storm warning flag has been hoisted at the Pamban Port near Rameswaram here on Wednesday.

The low-pressure area that has formed over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and the Equatorial Indian Ocean has now intensified into a depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal.

The depression, centered 1,270 km south-southeast of Chennai, is expected to intensify into a deep depression within the next 24 hours and move in a west-northwest direction.

The Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for Ramanathapuram district, stating that there is a possibility of heavy rain in one or two places within the district from January 9 to 12.

Following the weather warning due to the depression in the Bay of Bengal, fishermen in the Gulf of Mannar and Palk Bay areas of Ramanathapuram district, the fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.

Additionally, the No. 1 storm warning flag has been hoisted at the Pamban Port near Rameswaram. The Department of Fisheries has also issued an announcement advising fishermen to securely moor their boats as strong winds are expected to blow.
