Maharashtra government on Monday (March 9, 2026) ordered a temporary halt to the issuance of new auto-rickshaw permits across the State. The decision, effective immediately, was announced by Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik. Mr. Sarnaik stated that the matter would be placed before the cabinet. A fresh policy and standard operating procedure (SOP) would be formulated before the process resumes. “A decision on issuing new licences will be taken only after discussions with the cabinet,” he said.
