A state-of-the-art Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) substation of the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) will be established in Puducherry at a cost of ₹68.67 crore by Salasar Techno Engineering Limited that will add to the overall efficiency of the distribution system in the city.

Salasar Techno, which was awarded the contract for the Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) Package SS-145 in December 2025, will execute the project at Lawspet under the consultancy services that the PGCIL is providing to the Puducherry Electricity Department.

A press note from the company said the GIS substation project involves the design, engineering, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of a 110/22 kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS), along with all associated civil, structural, and electrical works.

Once operational, the substation is expected to play a critical role in strengthening power distribution efficiency and overall grid resilience, supporting both existing electricity demand and future load growth driven by urbanisation and economic development in the region, the press note added.

Shashank Agarwal, Managing Director, Salasar Techno Engineering Limited, said the company expected the execution of the new project to align with its record of delivering reliable, future-ready and transformative assets for India’s energy infrastructure.
