HYDERABAD

Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said that the State government would initiate steps to identify beneficiaries for the allotment of 2BHK houses taken up during the previous BRS government, and provide financial assistance as required under the ongoing Indiramma Housing Scheme.

With several MLAs raising issues related to housing for the poor in TG, during the Question Hour in the winter session of the Assembly on Saturday, he promised to provide infrastructure at 2BHK housing colonies and take up repairs for houses that were completed but not allotted to beneficiaries.

“About 36,000 2BHK houses are yet to be completed in 133 colonies across the State. We have already released ₹744 crore towards repairs, infrastructure, and other works,” he said, slamming the previous BRS government led by K. Chandrasekhar Rao for failing to complete 2BHK houses even in Vasalamarri village in Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district, which was adopted by him.

The Minister also said that steps would be taken to ensure completion of houses taken up under the ₹3 lakh scheme. “About 13,000 houses were taken up under this special scheme, but they are still incomplete,” he said, promising to finish them.

Mr. Reddy further stated that the government would allot house sites and ensure construction under the Indiramma Housing Programme where beneficiaries do not own house sites. Reiterating the State government’s commitment to providing housing for the poor, he said that 3 lakh houses taken up under the Indiramma Housing Scheme would be completed by the monsoon.

“So far, 52,000 houses under Indiramma scheme have been constructed, and house warming ceremonies have also been completed,” he said, adding that the next phase of houses will be sanctioned in April.
