Madurai Collector K.J. Praveen Kumar and Commissioner of Police J. Loganathan have instructed the Static Surveillance Teams (SSTs) to check maximum number of vehicles to prevent transporting of contraband, cash and gifts in the run-up to Assembly election on April 23.

The officials inspected the functioning of the SSTs at Sellur.

The SST officials were advised to focus on frisking the driver, passengers and riders and checking the vehicles for contrabands and gifts.

“Intensified checking will help the purpose,” the officials have been told.

The entire process of frisking and checking should be videographed and completed quickly. The vehicles should not be made to wait unnecessarily.

“Any verification of the vehicles later could be done through the Parivahan App or e-challan machine using the registration number,” the Commissioner said.

Similarly, the SSTs have been asked to keep changing their spot of vehicle check to ensure an element of surprise.
