A Static Surveillance Team (SST) seized gold, diamond, and silver jewellery worth ₹9.47 crore transported in a vehicle without proper documents.

A team led by Rajeshwaran, the SST officer for the Mudukulathur Assembly Constituency, was engaged in vehicle checking on Saturday night at the Kannirajapuram checkpost on the East Coast Road near Sayalgudi.

At that time, S. Raja ,36, a resident of Harveypatti in Thirupparankundram, Madurai district, arrived by car via the Thoothukudi road.

When the Election Flying Squad inspected the car, they found gold, diamond, and silver jewellry kept in 18 boxes. Upon investigation, it was stated that the jewellery belonged to a private company in the Madurai area and was being transported to be delivered to various jewellery shops based on orders.

However, as they were being transported without proper documents, the SST seized the gold, diamond, and silver jewellery valued at ₹9.47 crore.

The seized jewellery was handed over to Deputy Tahsildar Rajkumari at Mudukulathur Tahsildar Office and subsequently deposited at the Ramanathapuram Government Treasury.

Authorities advised that the jewellry deposited in the treasury could be reclaimed by providing the appropriate documents.
