Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker M. Appavu inaugurated the State Government’s ‘Ungal Kanavai Sollunga’ (‘Tell about your dream’) programme, which has been launched to understand the public opinion about the schemes and policies of the present government and their dreams about development of Tamil Nadu and their genuine needs.

As the State Government has introduced a slew of welfare schemes, ‘Ungal Kanavai Sollunga’ initiative has been taken up to understand the obstacles the public face in availing the benefits of these schemes and further simplify the norms for expanding these programmes to cover more beneficiaries.

Moreover, this step also aims to understand the public needs and their dream about ‘developed Tamil Nadu’ by improving the infrastructure and living conditions of the residents by 2030.

The trained volunteers visiting the residents will handover forms and the list of government schemes to every family, which should fill-up the forms to be handed over to the volunteers visiting them within another couple of days. The filled-in information in the forms will be uploaded to the mobile app meant for this exercise, and the volunteer will hand over a ‘dream card’ with a unique identity number to each family for future references.

As Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched the scheme in Thiruvallur district, he interacted with sanitary worker Kalpana of Kariyandi in Tirunelveli district through videoconference to understand about her dream. She replied that she wanted to own a free house and the supply of drinking water to the houses in the hamlet from the village well.

Mr. Stalin, as the Opposition Leader, organised similar exercise in every district by receiving petitions from the public in a huge box ahead of the 2021 Assembly election and promised the petitioners that their petitions detailing their grievances would be positively addressed once he assumed office. Now, the second leg of this exercise ‘Ungal Kanavai Sollunga’ has been floated towards the fag end of his tenure.

District Collector R. Sukumar, Mayor G. Ramakrishnan, Palayamkottai MLA M. Abdul Wahab and Deputy Mayor K.R. Raju and District Panchayat Chairman V.S.R. Jegadeesh were present.
