The Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC), a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Education, plays a pivotal role in strengthening research in India’s Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) through fostering collaborations with globally top-ranked universities, said Somnath Ghosh, member of the SPARC Core Group Committee. He was addressing the International SPARC Cancer Research Conclave–II here on Monday (February 16), organised by the GITAM School of Science, GITAM Deemed to be University, in association with the Knight Centre for Experimental Therapeutics, Oregon Health and Science University (the U.S.). In his keynote address, Mr. Ghosh highlighted that SPARC has created a dynamic platform for Indian researchers to engage with leading global institutions, enabling the exchange of knowledge, expertise and advanced research methodologies. He noted that by leveraging the SPARC programme, academicians can transcend isolated and small-scale research efforts and move toward impactful, global and translational research that directly benefits society. Sanjay Malhotra, a professor from Oregon Health and Science University (the U.S.), said the SPARC Cancer Research Conclave–II serves as an important platform for interdisciplinary dialogue, international collaboration and knowledge exchange in the field of cancer research.
