The total voter strength in Thanjavur district has declined by 7.01% after the completion of the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision 2025 exercise.

According to an official release, prior to the SIR, there were 20,98,561 voters in the eight Assembly constituencies of Thiruvidaimaruthur, Kumbakonam, Papanasam, Thiruvaiyaru, Thanjavur, Orathanadu, Pattukottai, and Peravurani.

During the SIR, 22,279 voters were declared as “untraceable”, 66,842 as “permanently shifted”, 1,09,241 as dead, 7,989 as “double entry” and 152 under different “disqualification categories”. Thus, the names of 2,06,503 voters were deleted from the electoral rolls of the eight Assembly constituencies.

After the scrutiny of applications submitted alongwith 13 documents prescribed for challenging the deletion of names other than the deceased voters’ names, 29,329 men, 35,236 women and eight third gender voters totalling 64,573 were re-entered and the remaining names were deleted.

Thus, as per the final electoral roll released on February 23, after the SIR exercise, there are 19,51,445 voters (9,47,278 men, 10,04,012 women, and 155 third gender) in the Thanjavur district, the release added.

The final roll was released by the Collector B. Priyanka Raj and received by the representatives of recognised political parties.

7.98% decline

In Tiruvarur district, the total electorate in the district registered a 7.98 per cent decrease comprising Thiruthuraipoondi, Mannargudi, Tiruvarur, and Nannilam Constituencies published before the commencement of SIR in November 2025.

While the electoral roll released prior to the SIR exercise contained 10,64,640 voters, the number declined by 84,988 after the completion of SIR. The final roll was released by the Collector V.Mohanachandran and received by the representatives of recognised political parties, according an official release.
