A six-day-long Faculty Development Programme (FDP) aimed at enhancing academic excellence began at St. Philomena’s College in Mysuru on January 2.

Organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of St. Philomena’s College (Autonomous), Mysuru, the FDP titled ‘Augmenting Capacity Enhancement of Educators for Quality-Driven and Sustainable Academic Excellence in Higher Educational Institutions’ is designed for both undergraduate and postgraduate faculty members.

Prashant Vishwanath, dean (research) at JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, and biochemistry professor at JSS Medical College, Mysuru, delivered the inaugural address and emphasised the need for continuous capacity building in modern pedagogy.

After the inaugural session, Dr. Ashok Rao, former Head of Network Project at Centre for Electronics Design and Technology, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, spoke on ‘Indian Knowledge System’, exploring how traditional wisdom can be integrated into contemporary higher education to foster sustainable academic growth.

The event was presided over by Rev. Lourdu Prasad Joseph, Rector, in the presence of Principal Ravi J.D. Saldanha. The FDP will continue till January 8, with daily sessions scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
