Sivaganga district police here on Wednesday registered a case against the BJP Sivaganga district president Pandithurai following allegations of verbal abuse directed at a women’s wing leader, which led to her to attempt on ending her life. Police said, Rajeshwari, 45, a resident of the Pon Nagar area in Karaikudi, served as the BJP Sivaganga District Women’s Wing President. On Tuesday, the women’s wing had organised a protest in Karaikudi to condemn the DMK government. While Rajeshwari was overseeing the arrangements, it is reported that the name of a key party executive was missing from the protest banner. Enraged by this oversight, the BJP District President, Pandithurai, allegedly scolded and verbally abused her. Dejected by the public reprimand, Rajeshwari attempted to take her own life. However, relatives intervened in time, rescued her, and admitted her to a private hospital for treatment. After recovering, she was discharged and returned home. Based on a formal complaint lodged by Rajeshwari, the Alagappapuram Police have registered a case against district president Pandithurai. An investigation into the matter is currently under way.
