Siruthuli will rejuvenate Mundanthurai and Sadivayal check dams in Coimbatore district with support from industries, said a press release.

The Mundanthurai check dam, located in Alandurai, is currently heavily silted, resulting in a substantial reduction in its water holding capacity. It will be rejuvenated with the support of Pricol and the works will include desilting, strengthening of bunds, and installation of percolation shafts to enhance storage capacity, the statement said. These measures are expected to improve groundwater recharge, support downstream wells and borewells, increase the cultivation area, and strengthen the overall groundwater table in the region.

The release added that though water is available at the Sadivayal checkdam throughout the year, continuous silt deposition has significantly reduced its storage capacity, resulting in inadequate groundwater recharge. The proposed restoration, with the support of Shiva Distilleries, Cetex Petrochemicals, and Shuka Consultancy Services, will include desilting, creation of new bunds, and necessary civil works to strengthen the structure. These interventions will enhance water storage capacity, improve groundwater recharge, and expand the cultivation area.

Works commenced on Friday for the two major works, the release added.
