The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has registered a suo motu case in connection with the death of a 24-year-old woman from Alampady in Kannur. She had been questioned by the police in an alleged theft case. In a video message before her death, she reportedly said she was under severe mental distress following police interrogation. The Commission initiated proceedings taking into account the contents of the video message and the circumstances leading to her death.
