The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) on Monday joined the protests being staged by the nursing graduates in Dindigul.

Over 50 women who studied in a private nursing college in Ambilikai in Oddanchatram in Dindigul district had earlier submitted their petition to Dindigul Collector. The women were unable to secure jobs as the college was not properly registered.

They said they were unable to get government jobs because the mandatory affiliation of the college for public health services had not been renewed. The women had completed the Auxiliary Nurse Midwife course at the college, they said.

Recently, a notification for counselling for the post of village health nurse was issued. They had applied for it and were expecting a call. However, they did not receive the call for the counselling. Disappointed, they raised a complaint. They were informed that the private college was not properly registered.

The women in their petition to the Collector said that they were suffering due to lapses on the part of the college. They sought the intervention of the authorities in the issue.
