The Bengaluru East City Corporation has issued a seven-day deadline to all paying guest (PG) accommodations, service apartments, and hostels in its jurisdiction to rectify safety deficiencies, warning of strict action including closure and prosecution if safety norms are not complied with.

In a notice issued on December 30, 2025, the corporation said the directive follows a recent tragic cylinder explosion and fire incident at a PG in Kundalahalli which resulted in one death and three injuries.

The corporation has directed all PG, hostel, and service apartment owners, operators and managers to review their premises and ensure strict compliance with prescribed safety protocols. These include the safe and authorised use of LPG or gas connections, a complete ban on illegal or unsafe gas cylinders, adequate ventilation and fire safety measures, availability of functional fire extinguishers and emergency exits, adherence to electrical safety norms to avoid overloading, and possession of valid trade licences and registrations.

After the deadline, special inspection drives would be conducted by the corporation’s public health officers and strict enforcement action would be initiated, the authorities said.
