Senior journalist S. Ramaswami, 74, who retired as southern regional bureau head of the Press Trust of India, passed away at his home in Chennai on Sunday. Born in Thanjavur, he completed his schooling in Nagapattinam, and did his graduation at Pachaiyappa’s College, Chennai. He joined PTI and worked in the organisation for 30 years. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in his condolence message, said Ramaswami was close to several former chief ministers including M. Karunanidhi. Over the years, he came to be known as “PTI Ramaswami”. His death is a great loss to the journalist community. The last rites will be held at 11 a.m. at the Besant Nagar crematorium.
