The Department of History at Sree Neelakanta Government Sanskrit College, Pattambi, held a national seminar on ‘new trends in archaeology and epigraphy’ on Wednesday and Thursday (January 7–8, 2025).

Summing up the seminar on Thursday, S.V. Rajesh, assistant professor from the Department of Archaeology, University of Kerala, described archaeology as a discipline that speaks of possibilities and not of finalities.

“This is because of the very nature of the discipline, which heavily depends upon the relics long buried in the past,” said Dr. Rajesh.

When Dr. Rajesh presented a paper on ‘early Harappan archaeological research in Kachch, Gujarat’, his colleague G.S. Abhayan spoke on ‘mapping the Iron Age archaeology of Kerala: field surveys and excavation perspectives’.

R. Sivanatham, joint director at the Department of Archaeology, Tamil Nadu, spoke on recent advances in archaeological investigations in Tamil Nadu.

Kaviya Rajamani, archaeological officer from Thiruvallur district, spoke on archaeological investigations in Kongalnagaram.

E. Sreejith from the Department of History, SARBTM Government College, Koyilandy, spoke on Sankaranarayaneeyam and the chronological determination of the Tharisapalli copper plates.
