Local MLA and Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka has appealed to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to take steps for the revival of the Lakshmipuram lift irrigation scheme and for the construction of a new lift irrigation project on the right bank of the Godavari River.

During the Chief Minister’s visit to the Devadula project in the district on Sunday, the minister submitted a formal memorandum highlighting the urgent irrigation needs of farmers in Kannaigudem mandal and surrounding areas. She noted that the Lakshmipuram lift irrigation system, completed in 2007, has become defunct over the years due to changes in the Godavari’s flow and heavy sand deposition, rendering it unusable.

Ms. Seethakka proposed the revival of the existing system along with a new lift scheme utilising the backwaters of the Sammakka Sagar project (Tupakulagudem) at the head regulator. According to the plan prepared by the department, the two initiatives together would help stabilise irrigation for 921 acres across villages. The estimated cost of the new project is ₹22 crore.
