Security arrangements in place for Pongal festival

Tiruchi City Police have made comprehensive security arrangements here in connection with Pongal. 

As many as 625 police officers and personnel have been deployed at various places in the city where the public assemble in large numbers, temples, important streets and at leisure spots, among others. 

Adequate manpower has also been deployed at the nine check posts in Tiruchi city limits to carry out intensive vehicle checks besides deployment of personnel to carry out patrolling.  Pink patrol vehicles have been carrying out rounds to ensure security for women and children. Vehicle checks have been intensified at the check posts and at important spots to initiate action against road rule violators including those driving vehicles at high speed. 

Instructions have been given to the Deputy Commissioners of Police to keep a watch on the activities of history sheeters coming under the A and A++ categories falling under the city limits. Traffic police personnel have been asked to carry out awareness campaigns on road safety to the general public and students of schools and colleges till January 31 in connection with the observance of National Road Safety month.

Bandobust arrangements would be made at Amma Mandapam bathing ghat in Srirangam and at the Ayyalamman and Odathurai bathing ghats in the city on January 18 in connection with Thai Amavasai when many would perform rituals at the bathing ghats for their ancestors, a police press release said.
