Cadres of parties in the Secular Progressive Alliance, headed by the DMK in Tamil Nadu, staged demonstrations against the Union government in Thanjavur district on Thursday. The demonstrators, drawn from the DMK, the Congress, the MDMK, the CPI(M), the CPI, the VCK, the Thamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi, the Makkal Neethi Maiam, the Social Democratic Party of India and the Vivasaya Thozhilalar Katchi, raised slogans against the Central government for betraying Tamil Nadu in the Union Budget and bringing in a legislation for winding up the 100 days work scheme. The demonstrations were held at Thanjavur Corporation, in Thanjavur, Thiruvaiyaru, Budalur, Orathanadu Panchayat Union areas, Thiruvaiyaru, Melathirupoonthuruthi, Vallam, Orathanadu Town Panchayat areas.
