A 41-year-old scooter rider was killed in a road accident on national highway 66 at Arikady, Kasaragod, Kerala, on Sunday night after his two-wheeler collided with a car while travelling in the wrong direction. The Kumbala police have registered a case in connection with the accident, naming the deceased as the accused based on a complaint filed by the car driver.

The deceased was identified as Badarul Muneer, a native of Kanyana, Mandur, Karnataka, who worked as a hotel employee at Pachambalil, Uppala.

According to the police, Muneer was riding from Kumbala along the lane meant for vehicles travelling towards Mangaluru, when he allegedly rode in the wrong direction and collided with the car proceeding from Mangaluru to Kasaragod. Muneer sustained grievous injuries in the impact and died on the spot, the police said.

The case was registered following a complaint by Shailesh (27), a native of Mangaluru, who was driving the car. The police have invoked Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The body has been kept at the the Kumbala Government Hospital and will be handed over to relatives after a post-mortem examination, the police said.

Traffic on the highway was disrupted for a considerable time following the accident, the police added.
