The Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has recommended appointment of Justice Sujoy Paul as Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court.

The Collegium recommended appointment of Justice Paul in a meeting held on January 9.

Justice Paul is currently posted as a judge in the Calcutta High Court. His parent High Court is Madhya Pradesh.

This is the second consecutive month the Collegium has recommended new Chief Justices for State High Courts. On December 18 last year, the Collegium had recommended the elevation of five judges as the Chief Justices of High Courts.

In December, Justice Manoj Gupta of the Allahabad High Court was proposed for appointment as the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court. Justice Revati P. Mohit Dere of the Bombay High Court was recommended for appointment as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court. Justice M.S. Sonak of the Bombay High Court was recommended for elevation as the Jharkhand High Court. Justice A. Muhamed Mustaque of the Kerala High Court was proposed for the Chief Justiceship of the Sikkim High Court. Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo of the Orissa High Court was recommended as Patna High Court Chief Justice.
