On April 2, 2026, the Supreme Court of India took serious note of an incident in which seven judicial officers, deployed in Kaliachak for SIR process, were surrounded by a mob and held for over nine hours on April 1, 2026. The officers were trapped from Wednesday afternoon and rescued only around 1 a.m. after police and paramilitary forces intervened.
