Sanitation workers seek their reinstatement in service

Sanitation workers working at the Kalaburagi Central Bus Stand, who were recently relieved from service, have urged the authorities to reinstate them in service.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Kalaburagi Central Bus Stand Sanitation Workers Association honorary president M.B. Sajjan and association president Usha Diggi said that 21 workers, most of them women, who were engaged in maintaining cleanliness at the bus stand for over a decade, were removed from duty without prior notice.

Mr. Sajjan said that the bus stand, one of the busiest in the region, witnesses heavy passenger movement daily and requires regular sanitation work.

He added that cleaning activities have been affected following the removal of the workers.

He sought the immediate intervention by authorities and demanded that the workers be reinstated with a revised minimum monthly wage of ₹19,000.

Though the workers submitted a memorandum to officials of the Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KKRTC) seeking redressal of their grievances, no action has been taken so far, he said.

They have threatened to stage a protest in the city on Saturday if their demands are not met.
