Aruchami disbursed welfare assistance worth ₹1.05 crore to the sanitary workers at the Collectorate on Wednesday. He also handed over welfare board identity cards to the sanitary workers. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Aruchami said the solatium for the accidental death of sanitary workers had been increased from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh by the Tamil Nadu Government, which had introduced free meals scheme for them. District Collector R. Sukumar said the Tirunelveli Corporation had 1,507 sanitary workers, including 223 permanent workers and 1,284 temporary workers. While 883 persons had been given smart welfare board boards, 861 had received medical insurance cards. The sanitary workers should register themselves with the welfare board via www.application.tncwwb.com to avail the benefits, Dr. Sukumar said. District Revenue Officer M. Durai was present.
