The Kollam Vigilance Court in Kerala has once again denied bail to former Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) president and former CPI(M) MLA A. Padmakumar in connection with the Sabarimala gold theft case. The special investigation team (SIT) had earlier presented specific forensic and documentary evidence linking Mr. Padmakumar to alleged conspiracy. The court on Wednesday noted that given Mr. Padmakumar’s “substantial political influence” and former administrative status, his release at this sensitive stage could lead to the destruction or manipulation of vital electronic and documentary evidence. Mr. Padmakumar remains in judicial custody as the investigation into the missing temple gold continues.
