The Sports Authority of A.P. (SAAP) will launch the State-level chess event as part of the SAAP League at Sri Srinivasa Sports Complex in Tirupati on February 21. According to a press release, 2,445 chess players participated in the district-level trials across the State on February 17, and 360 reached the main round. The winners of the district-level competitions will compete in four age categories of Under-19, Under-17, Under-15 and Under-13 on February 21. Two-time Women’s World Rapid Chess Champion Koneru Humpy extended her best wishes to the participants and noted that competitive platforms provide young players with the experience and confidence needed to excel at higher levels. SAAP Vice-Chairperson and Managing Director S. Bharani said the SAAP League is committed to providing sustained opportunities for young athletes to grow, compete and perform.
