Rumours of a shortage of petroleum products and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) due to the West Asia conflict spread panic among locals in several areas of Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh, leading to long queues at many petrol pumps on Friday (March 6, 2026), officials said.

People crowded filling stations to purchase petrol and diesel in the Nighasan, Pallia, and Bhira areas.

However, district supply officer Anjani Kumar Singh dismissed the rumours as baseless and said there was enough stock of fuel in the district.

“The rumours unfounded,” the officer said, adding that people should purchase fuel as per their needs and not panic. He warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found hoarding petroleum products.

District Magistrate Durga Shakti Nagpal took cognisance of the rumours and appealed to people to remain calm, assuring that the supply of petrol and diesel in the district was normal.

Kheri Petroleum Traders Association district president Abhishek Dixit said there was no fuel crisis in the district and sufficient stock was available at petrol pumps to meet consumer demand.

Arun Kumar Singh, district president of the LPG distributors’ association, said there was enough LPG stock.
