Rayalaseema Rashtra Samithi (RRS) has urged the Karnataka State Government not to increase the height of the Almatti dam, as such a move will cause huge loss to the ayacut farmers in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana States.

Addressing media persons in Kurnool on Tuesday (March 17, 2026), RRS president Dr. Kuncham Venkatasubba Reddy said he had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also apprised Karnataka State water resources department Minister D.K. Shiva Kumar about the problems that the farmers of the three States face if the height of Almatti dam is increased.

Mr. Venkatasubba Reddy maintained that Karnataka is proposing to increase the height of the project to increase water storage, provide more water for irrigation in the northern regions of the State and to use the excess water that flows into the sea.

Mr. Venkatasubba Reddy said Karnataka is claiming that the project is in line with the 2013 Krishna Water Disputes – II award. The RRS president said increasing height of the project will result in non-flow of water from the Dam and the ayacut farmers will have to sustain heavy loss.
