Rowing experts Tarun Kakani and Balaji Maradapa surveying the Krishna River in Vijayawada on Thursday for developing a centre for water sports.

Sculling and Rowing Association of Andhra Pradesh president, Tarun Kakani, and Rowing Federation of India president, Balaji Maradapa, met Sports Authority of A.P. (SAAP) Managing Director (MD) S. Bharani on Thursday to discuss the roadmap for developing rowing in the State.

During the meeting, Mr. Kakani and Mr. Maradapa put forward a proposal to establish major rowing centres at Suryalanka, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Jangareddygudem.

The discussion focused on leveraging the State’s water resources to build a strong rowing ecosystem and nurture competitive talent, according to a press release.

Mr. Maradapa promised full support from the federation towards the development of rowing in the State, including the provision of boats, technical expertise, and coaching support.

Upcoming events

Speaking about upcoming events, Mr. Kakani said that the district-level selections for the SAAP sports meet will commence from April 3, followed by State-level competitions later in April, aiming to identify and promote talented athletes across the State.
