Superintendent of Police (SP) Tushar Dudi launched the campaign. As part of the initiative, the SP released specially designed posters promoting helmet usage. The posters were later later fixed to autorickshaws to ensure continuous public visibility across the corporation. Speaking to a gathering, the SP stressed that road safety remained the department’s top priority, particularly in urban areas where accidents were on the rise. He observed that a majority of road mishaps involved two-wheelers and autorickshaws, prompting the police to focus on targeted awareness and regulatory measures for riders and drivers. The SP stressed that the department’s approach went beyond strict enforcement. “Our objective is not merely to impose fines but to bring about voluntary behavioural change through sustained awareness programmes,” Mr. Dudi said. He also called for active cooperation from auto unions, stakeholders, and the media to amplify the safety message. Auto drivers were urged to advise passengers on traffic norms and road safety practices. “Road safety is a collective responsibility, and a meaningful reduction in accidents can be achieved only through public participation,” the SP said. Deputy SP (Chittoor) T. Sainath, Inspectors Mopuri Maheshwara, Nityababu, and representatives of the auto union attended the programme.
