Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited – Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (RINL-VSP) conducted a plant-level mock drill on Monday to assess emergency preparedness during off-peak hours. The drill was overseen by J. Sivasankara Reddy, the State government’s Joint Chief Inspector of Factories.

The simulated scenario involved a coke oven gas leakage from the LP Booster-1 at the Gas Boosting Station-2 of the Energy & Environment Department, with two personnel presumed to have suffered asphyxiation. The exercise showcased coordinated response and readiness of teams from the energy & environment, gas safety, CISF fire & security, medical services, safety, human resources, water management department (WMD), and other departments, said the press release.

During the mock drill, emergency response measures such as fixed and mobile firefighting equipment, water curtain systems, and rescue tools were effectively deployed. RINL employees and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, using Self‑Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and other safety equipment, carried out the rescue of the affected personnel.
