The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) has decided to shift its campus to Bengaluru South District by March 2026 in a phased manner.

“Construction of the new campus is in full swing. We are planning to start shifting the campus by March this year. In the first phase, we will shift the administrative block. The examination section will function from the Bengaluru office for some time in the interest of students,” said Bhagavan B.C., Vice-Chancellor of the university.

Speaking at a press conference here on Friday, Dr. Bhagavan said, “We are waiting for the completion of the construction of staff accommodation . The State government had asked for ₹600 crore for the new campus, and ₹300 crore has already been transferred.” .

When asked about the financial burden on the university, Arjun Odeyar, Registrar (Administration), said, “We are releasing the funds in a phased manner . For salaries and other retirement benefits of the staff, we have kept ₹300 crore corpus fund, and we have brought it to the notice of the government that university cannot disturb that amount.”

Nasha Mukth campaign

Meanwhile, to create awareness about drug addiction among the youth, the RGUHS has taken up an initiative to screen short videos in multiplexes and cinema theatres.

“As per various reports, close to 30% of students across the country are addicted to drugs and other substances. Taking it seriously, our university has started the Nasha Mukth campaign. Our students have created some content and videos to spread awareness about drug menace, and we will be asking every college to show it to students before commencement of the class at least twice a week in the classrooms. Currently, there are advertisements/awareness videos related to tobacco during movie shows. We will write to the Union Ministry for Information and Broadcasting requesting to include ads related to drug awareness ,” Dr. Bhagavan said.

The university has already submitted a similar request to the Transport Department seeking space on long-route buses, metros and major bus stations to show the drug awareness short videos. “Minister for Transport Ramalinga Reddy has responded positively to our request, and we will soon submit a final proposal for implementation,” he said.

The RGUHS has constituted a task force to monitor drug menace on the medical and nursing college campuses, and the task force includes police officers, faculty members, and student representatives. “The force must submit a report to us every three months . From this year, the colleges must declare the campus as drug free during the affiliation process,” he said.
