Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy inaugurated the 1st Telangana Legislators’ Sports and Cultural Meet – 2026 at LB Stadium on Saturday, describing it as a much-needed opportunity for lawmakers to relax and engage in healthy competition away from their demanding public responsibilities.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the Chief Minister said the event was not just about sporting excellence but about fostering camaraderie among public representatives. “This meet is not about extraordinary performances. It is about unity, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship,” he said, noting that his Cabinet colleagues, Mohammad Azharuddin and Vakati Srihari, were former cricketers.

Mr. Reddy also highlighted the government’s efforts to promote a vibrant sports culture in Telangana.

Legislators from various political parties participated enthusiastically in the opening event, marking the beginning of the first-ever sports and cultural gathering exclusively for MLAs and MLCs in TG.

The two-day meet, organised by the State Sports Department, features athletics, chess, carrom, kabaddi, volleyball, and several cultural programmes.

As part of the ceremony, the Chief Minister released the brochure of the ‘Fit Telangana Campaign’. Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy delivered the welcome address. Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka were also present.

The government has revived the long-discontinued tradition of hosting sports events for legislators, an activity that had ceased during the previous BRS regime.
