Hyderabad

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has expressed confidence that there is still adequate time for the Governor to clear the nomination of Minister Mohammad Azharuddin to the Telangana Legislative Council under the Governor’s quota.

In an informal chat with reporters on Friday, the Chief Minister indicated that the government would soon meet the new Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla to discuss and expedite the pending nominations.

He noted that the Supreme Court had recently observed that it had no objection in the matter and that the State government was free to pursue the issue with the Governor for clearance. In case of any legal hurdle, the government could approach the High Court.

Mr. Azharuddin, who was sworn in as Minister for Minorities Welfare on October 31, 2025, is constitutionally required to get elected either to the Legislative Assembly or the Legislative Council by April 30, 2026, to continue in the Cabinet.

The Telangana Cabinet had recommended the names of Mr. Azharuddin and M. Kodandaram for nomination to the Legislative Council under the Governor’s quota on August 30, 2025. However, the file is still pending approval from Governor as of March 20.
