Tenders have been invited for the ₹103.72-crore project to revive Pazhukkanila Lake in Kottayam, where the Kodoor and Meenachil rivers meet Vembanad Lake, marking the formal launch of restoration efforts. Initiated under the Meenachilar-Meenantharayar-Kodoorar Rejuvenation Scheme, the project aims at developing the surrounding areas of E-Block in Kottayam municipality, J-Block in Thiruvaarp panchayat and fields in Thiruvaikkari into four-metre-wide channels. The work will utilise the sludge deposited in Pazhukkanilkkayal to aid the development and enhancement of these areas. An official statement added that the work to strengthen riverbanks at erosion-prone spots using CSR funds from various companies is progressing successfully in the Vettikkad area of Thiruvaarp panchayat. The contractor receives funds directly from the sponsoring companies, ensuring smooth implementation.
