Residents of Mettur urged the Health Department to improve the infrastructure at Mettur Government District Headquarters Hospital and to provide adequate doctors at the hospital. In 2001, the Mettur Government Hospital was upgraded as Mettur Government District Headquarters Hospital. People living in and around Mettur, Kolathur, Thangamapuripattinam, and Viralikadu visit this hospital in case of emergency. But, residents alleged that there is no proper infrastructure or basic amenities in the hospital and there are not enough doctors.
