Residents and activists on Monday petitioned Dindigul Collector raising objection to the construction of the proposed new bus stand in Pallapatti panchayat in the district. They said that the area was located in a polluted environment.

The residents complained that waste from leather factories was dumped in the vicinity. This had affected the soil and agricultural activities. Under these circumstances, there is a proposal to construct the bus stand near Kottapatti under Pallapatti panchayat.

They said no proper study was conducted by the authorities before identifying the place. If the new bus stand was established in the said area, the people will be affected. It posed a serious threat to the health of the people, they complained.

They said considering the waste being dumped in the area, it could affect the durability of the structure. The residents submitted a petition to Dindigul Collector urging the authorities not to construct the bus stand in the area. If the authorities went ahead with the proposed plan to construct the bus stand in the very same place, then the protests would intensify, they added.
