Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has moved the High Court of Karnataka questioning the first information report (FIR) registered against him by the Bengaluru City Police on the direction of a metropolitan magistrate court for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments by his act of “mocking” the sacred daiva tradition portrayed in the Kannada film Kantara Chapter 1.

The actor’s petition has been listed for hearing on February 24.

Complainant Prashanth Metha, a city-based advocate, had approached the magistrate court after the city police did not act on his complaint against the actor.

Ranveer Singh, during the closing ceremony of International Film Festival of Goa (IFFI)-2025 in Goa on November 28, 2025, had on the stage mimiced actor Rishab Shetty’s performance in the climax of the film, while calling the revered daiva Chavundi of coastal Karnatakaas “female ghost”.

However, the actor on December 1, 2025, on Instagram apologised for his action while clarifying that he did not mean to hurt anyone’s sentiments but appreciate Rishab Shetty’s performance in the film.
