Why does spaghettification happen near a black hole? What is a dominant trait? Why is a carborundum crystal rainbow-coloured? These were some of the questions raised by the curious minds who walked into the Raman Research Institute (RRI) on Saturday.

More than 1,300 school students and other individuals attended the annual Open Day held by the institute to mark the discovery of the Raman effect by RRI’s founder, C.V. Raman, for which he won India’s first and only Science Nobel prize. This year marks the 98th year of the discovery of the Raman Effect.
