As part of intensified surveillance for the upcoming Assembly election, the Railway Protection Force’s (RPF) special team seized gold ornaments valued at ₹1,09,59,000, which were unaccounted for, at Perambur railway station. Under the supervision of Inspector-RPF of Thirumailai, the special team boarded an express train at Perambur. Two persons, R. Ravi Kumar (51) and A. Sridhar (44) from Coimbatore, were detained on suspicion. Though their bags contained only clothes, frisking led to the recovery of concealed gold ornaments weighing 843 grams. Due to lack of valid documentation, the valuables were seized and handed over to the Income Tax Department for further action, the RPF said.
